From what we know about the new ESEA framework, the news on education technology appears to be positive. The final bill, if approved and funded this week, allows school districts to use a portion of these funds annually for educational technology, including professional development and device purchases.
If your district were to receive funds for technology related professional development and digital resources, how would the money be best spent and why?
Teacher training in technology integration should be a priority in professional development. Teachers need to be trained in order to best meet the needs of today's digital natives coming into the classroom. Providing ongoing PD in technology integration will help teachers stay current as well.
The money would be used to pay for teachers to attend workshops on their own time. Money may also go to webinars that people can watch alone or in a group
We would use the money for Portfolios and hardware, 3 d printing. We currently use Google for Education and we need to update hardware, training of teachers and assisting student with connections outside of school
If my district was to receive funds for technology related to professional development and digital resources, the funds would be used to instill and enhance teacher skills and tools for successful technology integration into every classroom through professional development. This would be a school wide technology initiative to give every student a successful start in our technology driven world.
I would recommend we spend the money investing in transforming outdated school libraries into thriving learning commons with access to current databases, ebooks, and technology tools!
I would get more chromebooks in the classroom to help students become more digital literate and citizenship.
The money would be best spent working with teachers to develop lesson plans that use technology to solve problems and answer higher level questioning. Many teachers use technology to do the same thing they have always done....it is just a different tool. Developing questioning techniques and applying those to their content using technology is key.
