    NHSTE sponsors Computer Science Discoveries
Workshop Series for the Middle School

Code.org has just released an exciting new Middle School Computer Science curriculum called CS Discoveries.

    For more information check out:
    https://code.org/educate/csd

This is a yearlong curriculum that can be broken down into modules to be completed different times over the course of a number of years. This is ideal for districts that are just getting into such a course of studies.

Unfortunately, there is no training available in this region this summer through Code.org, so we thought NHSTE would offer this series.

Karen Locke, a Computer Science Fundamentals trainer for Code.org and Deb Boisvert the Deerfield Technology Coordinator have developed a a series of exploratory workshops to support the implementation of CS Discoveries in New Hampshire. Deb and Karen are offering the first training day on August 17th with follow up sessions through the year.

    Draft Agenda for the day:

    8:00 - 8:30 -- Introduction & Welcome

    8:30 - 9:00 -- CS Discoveries Teaching Practice

    9:00 - 10:00 -- Problem Solving

    12:30 - 1:15 -- Lunch

    1:15 - 3:00 -- Animations & Games

    3:00 - 3:30 -- Wrap up

    The workshop location:
Deerfield Community School, 66 North Road, Deerfield NH.

The registration cost includes snacks, lunch, supplies, and the Circuit Playground from Adafruit, a programming device used in the curriculum.  Check out this site for details on Adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/product/3000
